Haiti - Justice : «UEH competitions undermine freedom of conscience and religion» dixit l'OPC 07/08/2018 09:53:12
The Office of Citizen Protection (OPC) welcomes the transparency with which the Council of the State University of Haiti (UEH) implements the registration process for the different faculties and entities of the UEH to the academic year 2018-2019. However, the OPC notes that all admission competitions will be held on Saturdays and Sundays according to the calendar made public https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25033-haiti-flash-admission-contest-of-the-state-university-of-haiti-registrations-open.html and recalls that generally these two days are considered days of worship and prayer in Haiti even though we live in a secular society where the state only plays the regulatory role to guarantee the equality of all before the law whatever their beliefs or beliefs. The Office of Citizen Protection draws the attention of the Rectorate that the process of admission examinations within the UEH as programmed, "constitutes in many ways an infringement of the right to freedom of conscience and religion." The OPC recommends to the Council of the University to take into account the various grievances and claims relating to the violation of the right to freedom of conscience and religion for the respect of the right of all future UEH graduates in the interests of the Haitian nation.
