Haiti - Politic : Agreement on migration and the interests of the population in Haiti and abroad

Guy André Junior François, the resigning Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) and Fabien Sambussy, the Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), signed under their respective mandates a Cooperation Agreement strengthening their ties to promote migration policy and the interest of the Haitian population in Haiti and abroad.

In his speech, Minister François emphasized that the migration, the diaspora and the economy of Haiti are priorities for his Ministry and the Government. Recalling that the mission of the MHAVE is: to provide services to Haitians living in the diaspora in order to facilitate their integration in Haiti and in the host countries; promote and formalize the participation of the diaspora in the process of socio-economic and political development of Haiti and formalize and boost the links between the various Haitian communities living abroad and the national components, on the one hand, between these same communities and the Haitian government, on the other hand.

Fabien Sambussy, stressed that the signing of this Agreement was the condition "sine qua non" for IOM to support the efforts of the MHAVE in the establishment of an inclusive, constructive dialogue and structured with its nationals living abroad, in order to facilitate the alignment of the priorities of each party. Adding that as part of IOM's integrated approach in Haiti, technical support will be provided to the MHAVE for the mobilization of the diaspora and the management of migration for the promotion of the country's political, social and economic development.

Through this Cooperation Agreement, the MHAVE and IOM have formalized their long-standing partnership and collaboration to address common interests.
