Haiti - Politic : International airport project in Port-de-Paix !

This week Wilson Laleau, the Chief of Cabinet of President Moïse, at the head of a delegation of the National Office of Civil Aviation (OFNAC) went to the North West to discuss the construction project of an international airport in Port-de-Paix (public-private partnership) whose cost and financial structure are unknown until now.

This airport initially Category 3C (destination and flights less than 1,000 km) will accommodate aircraft of about 100 seats on a track of 2 km long, according to OFNAC, which speaks of the possibility in the future of enlarge the runway to change category and accommodate larger planes, 4C (2.1km runway), 4D (2.5km runway, medium-haul, charter).

According to OFNAC engineer Jean Daniel Decolline, despite the Cap-Haïtien airport located about 200 km from Port-de-Paix, the North West Department remains totally isolated. He believes that such an airport is essential, recalling that 70% of Cap-Haïtien flights from abroad, serve people from the North West.

The OFNAC engineers will have to choose one of the two sites chosen for this project in the commune of Port-de-Paix, at "Kadas" or "Milo" (5th section of the Baie-des-Moustiques).

According to Laleau, the legal status of this new airport should be transmitted to the National Palace next September before the start of work. The project is expected to begin receiving its first flights in December 2019...
