Haiti - Politic : Moïse seeks funds from the IMF, WB and IDB

On Wednesday, Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by Prime Minister Jean-Henry Céant, met with representatives in Haiti of the World Bank (WB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the head of operations of the Inter-American Development Bank ( IDB) to discuss cooperation in tax and monetary matters and the support of multilateral partners for the social programs to be put in place to alleviate the needy populations.

During this meeting, Moïse reiterated his Administration's commitment to deep institutional reform, to free up resources to increase national agricultural and industrial production, attract direct investment and create jobs.

However, as the Head of State had pointed out during the signing of the "Staff Monitored Program" (SMP) Reference Program with the IMF last February https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23659-haiti-economy-moise-accepts-the-program-of-control-and-the-requirements-of-the-imf.html he reminded multilateral donors that structural reforms must be accompanied by substantial social assistance measures that could improve the living conditions of the population in the short term.

It is in this perspective that the Head of State has presented a certain number of measures taken by the Government (limiting the state of life, strengthening the recovery of public revenues among others) in order to obtain more resources to finance social safety nets for the most vulnerable segments of the population.

At the end of this meeting, the multilateral partners reiterated their support for the Head of State's determination to finance the social safety nets and to pursue the structuring public investments.

In addition, representatives of the World Bank and the IDB's operations manager in Haiti have indicated their intention to provide budget support, taking into account the Government's efforts to undertake structural reforms, while considering the need to respond urgently to the expectations of the population.
