Haiti - Politic : Summary in figures of State actions for the Back to School

In order to ease the burden of parents for the start of the school year scheduled for September 3, the Government will accompany once again, Haitian families through the Ministry of Education.
In accordance with the wishes of President Jovenel Moïse, many of actions are planned by the Ministry of Education, for the academic year 2018-2019
Summary in figures of actions for the new school year :
Governance of the school system :
- Nearly 5,000 letters of appointment issued to teachers in an irregular situation. Several hundred of them have already received their pay ;
- The annual school fees are set at 1,000 gourdes for the 3rd cycle of the fundamental (national schools) and the secondary (lycées). No other fees are allowed under pain of punishment ;
- No tuition fees for the first and second cycles in national schools, the State provides the support ;
- Classroom size is limited to a maximum of 60 students in order to have better pedagogical control ;
- Nearly 900 million gourdes will be disbursed from the universal free and mandatory schooling program (PSUGO) for the payment of teacher salary arrears (2017-2018).
Access to education :
- Payment of school fees for 1st and 2nd cycle students in national schools. The State assumes the payment of 400 gourdes per child for the school year under the PSUGO. 2,508 national schools are involved for more than 151 million gourdes ;
- Assistance to state employees equivalent to 100% for a monthly salary of 25,000 gourdes least 50% for a salary of 25.001 to 46.000 gourdes and 25% for earnings above 46.000 gourdes https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25218-haiti-flash-back-to-school-assistance-measures-and-promises-of-president-moise.html ;
- 50 million gourdes to subsidize some parents who according to their record, could receive a lump sum up to 20,000 gourdes as accompaniment at the start of school ;
- 30,000 uniforms already available (100,000 ordered) ;
- 198,000 school kits available (220,000 ordered).
Support to schools :
- Presbyteral schools in disadvantaged areas : 40 million Gourdes will be awarded in school grant for the care of children ;
- Protestant schools : 30 million Gourdes will be awarded for the subsidy for schooling children in disadvantaged areas ;
- Communal schools : At least 2 million Gourdes will be awarded as a schooling subsidy for children attending these institutions for the first applications submitted ;
- Help for directors : A 50% advance will be granted to school principals to enable them to carry out initial interventions, including cleaning and painting in national schools, in order to prepare for the start of the school year.
Construction and rehabilitation of school infrastructures :
- 61 projects are underway across the country including 15 new constructions. At least 3 school infrastructures are already ready to be inaugurated ;
- Manufacture of 12,000 benches to be distributed in public schools ;
- The construction sites of 4 new high schools will be launched : Lycée Marie Jeanne, Lycée du Cent-cinquantenaire, Lycée Georges et Antoine Izméry et Lycée Daniel Fignolé ;
- Several other construction projects are expected to start shortly under the Public Investment Program. We can mention in particular : Ecole nationale de Plaisance (North), Ecole nationale Clervil Mode (Southeast), lycée national de Perches, lycée de Arniquet, lycée de Liancourt, lycée de Cavaillon, lycée de Corail.
STextbook Grant :
1.5 million school books will be subsidized at 70%.
Endowment of textbooks:
More than 400,000 textbooks (1st cycle at the 3rd cycle) will be made available free of charge to students in public schools in the country and collected at the end of the school year.
Teacher training :
Training sessions are planned for teachers as part of the National Training Plan for Teaching and Administrative Staff.

School Reforestation Project Launched :
The goal is to mobilize 4 million students for the planting of 1 million trees across the country.
Creation of 50 pre-school centers :
This is a new project that will also be launched from September 2018. It will provide support to children in very disadvantaged areas in 50 disadvantaged neighborhoods across the 10 departments, through the establishment of 50 preschools centers at 1 center per district, able to accommodate at least 100 children in targeted areas with a voluntary contribution from civil servants.
