Haiti - security : A haitian-american killed on his arrival in Haiti

A Haitian-American Christian Daniel, 65, from Austin, Texas to traveling to Haiti to visit his mother, was killed by unknowns shortly after his arrival on August 13, according to Daniel's niece, Vanessa Bissereth.

Remember that Christian Daniel had left Haiti to come to the United States in the 90s and then became an American citizen. He was very popular in his community near Rundberg Lane in Austin for his handyman skills.

Her niece Daniel, Vanessa Bissereth, said that prior to his trip in mid-August, Daniel told his family that he planned to bring food to his mother's village and do some work for the local residents, as he was doing in Austin. She said that after Daniel landed in Haiti, three men attacked him as he was leaving the airport and killed him.

Bissereth said that Daniel's family in the United States had learned of his death from relatives in Haiti. An official from the US State Department confirmed that the authorities knew about the death of this US citizen in Haiti "We are providing all appropriate assistance to the family and offer them our sincerest condolences on their loss," officials said.

Christian Daniel is survived by his wife, Vespa, his 20-year-old son who is studying at the University of Texas, and his 14-year-old daughter Kristine.

The family is also facing tremendous financial hardship in bringing the body back to the United States and attending the funeral. Bissereth has launched a "GoFundMe" page www.gofundme.com/eutbk9-please-help-christian-come-home to help cover the costs of Daniel's body transportation to Austin and additional funeral expenses. As of August 28, $6,184 in donations had already been received on a goal of $25,000.
