Haiti - Politic : School Canteens, 350,000 beneficiaries schoolchildren

On the 5th and last day of the Special Week of Conferences around Back to School, Mrs. Phanese R. Laguerre, Coordinator of the National Program of School Canteens (PNCS) presented the arrangements made by her institution for the new school year.

Laguerre said that on the instructions of President Moïse to allow all students to have access to a hot dish, the PNCS intended to intensify its actions to reach the maximum possible schools, especially in the most disadvantaged areas specifying "For the academic year 2018-2019, the PNCS plans to reach 350,000 students for a total of 1,190 schools across the country's 10 departments against 273,110 students for 875 schools during the 2017-2018 school year."

In order to materialize the vision of President Moïse, to allow all students to have access to a hot dish, the PNCS relies on the collaboration of the directors and operators of the sector for a good distribution of foods for schoolchildren.

As part of the program improvement, the PNCS intends to experiment with 3 pilot projects. This is a first project called "Snack" which consists of a breakfast made of local products such as cassava, akasan, candy syrup, chanm-chanm, etc... The second project called "School Garden" aimed at teaching children about farming activities and participating in the culture of the products they consume and the third project called "School Mobile Clinic" a nutritional health service to support students and provide preventive and curative care to students.
