Haiti - WEATHER : Tropical wave, continuation and increase of stormy rains on the country

Haiti's Hydro-Meteorological Unit (HMH) reports that a tropical wave located in the wind channel east of Puerto Rico influences the weather conditions in the Greater Antilles. This second area of bad weather began to hit Haiti on Tuesday and has already caused storms in the departments of the Great North and Center in the late afternoon and evening. The rains, accompanied by isolated storms, will continue with a probable increase on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 September in Haiti.

Remember that during the past weekend, spectacular floods have hit the city center of Cap-Haïtien, without causing any casualties https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25405-haiti-weather-passage-of-a-tropical-wave-sustained-rains-and-thunderstorms.html

The environment remains wet on the country, the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) calls for caution and reminds people of areas at high risk of flood, rock falls and landslide they must be extra careful and take the necessary precautions against storm showers :

  • Regularly monitor weather information, radio and TV, but also on the Internet and via social networks to be well informed;

  • Place your important documents and affairs above the level that the water could reach, or if possible upstairs;

  • At the time of the showers, limit your movements as much as possible and stay safe. Do not venture under any circumstances on a submerged road or in a flooded river, whether on foot, by motorbike, on animals or by car,

  • Arrange for evacuation if requested by the authorities, or if the water level and the fragility of the soil would require it, especially if you live in a high-risk area near a gully , a stream of water or a beach, or even mountainside.
