Haiti - Politic : Ambassador Sison discusses the next elections to the Primature
This week, US Ambassador to Haiti Michèle Jeanne Sison met to the Primature, Patrick Sully Joseph, the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of electoral matters, to discuss the current planning for the elections of October 2019, one of the Government's priorities.

Prime Minister Jean-Henry Céant, during the presentation of his General Policy, declared : "We solemnly undertake, before the Nation [...] to undertake everything within the framework of our prerogatives, to mobilize the necessary local resources and to solicit international support, where such a partnership would prove indispensable for the Parliament to be fully operational in January 2020. The elections provided for by the Constitution and the electoral law will take place on the agreed date. No pretext will be given nor admitted [...]"

Note that last December, President Moïse met 8 of the 9 members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) as well as Uder Antoine the Executive Director of the CEP around the organization of the next elections, planned in 12 months, for the renewal of 1/3 of the Senate, all the deputies and complementary elections for local authorities. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25513-haiti-elections-jovenel-moise-met-with-the-members-of-the-cep.html

Let us recall finally that Léopold Berlanger, the President of the Provisional Electoral Council had announced at the end of August 2018, that according to the chosen option the next elections could cost between 50 and 75 million dollars. The most expensive option includes modernizing the voting process for the publication of results the same evening or in the next 24 to 48 hours...
