Haiti - Economy : Customers owe 17.2 billion unpaid bills to EDH 24/10/2018 08:28:35
Hervé Pierre-Louis the Director General of Electricity of Haiti (EDH) said this week in a press conference that only 51.5% of consumers classified in the category of large customers have paid their bill last August. For the communes of Pétion-ville, Delmas and Port-au-Prince, the percentage of customers who paid their bill for the month of August is 23%, while for the communes of Tabarre and Carrefour the rate does not exceed 13% https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25913-haiti-flash-80-of-edh-customers-refuse-to-pay-their-electricity-bill.html
Pierre Louis said that the non-payment or irregular payment of bills is not only the fact of small consumers, pointing out that the debt (unpaid bills) due to EDH by the various consumer sectors, rises today to 17.2 billion gourdes (± 235 million US dollars).
According to Hervé Pierre-Louis, the breakdown of this debt is as follows :
- Residences in Port-au-Prince and in provincial towns more than 9 billion gourdes;
- Shops in Port-au-Prince and in the provinces more than 1.2 billion Gourdes;
- Industries more than 1 billion Gourdes;
- Public lighting 3.7 billion gourdes; ;
- Autonomous organizations in Port-au-Prince and the provinces 697 million Gourdes;
- Public bodies: 1.3 billion gourdes.
