Haiti - Diplomacy : The International Community rejects violence in Haiti

The Core Group created in 2004 to promote dialogue with the Haitian authorities and to contribute to the effective action of the international community in Haiti, composed of Mrs. Helen Meagher La Lime, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Haiti, Ambassadors of Brazil, Canada, France, Spain, the United States of America, of the European Union and the Special Representative of the Organization of American States (OAS), "strongly rejects the acts of violence perpetrated on the sidelines of demonstrations in recent days.

The members of the Group are deeply saddened by the loss of life and offer their sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.

The Group recalls that acts of violence seeking to provoke the resignation of legitimate authorities have no place in the democratic process. It welcomes the Executive's commitment to continue the dialogue and calls for an inclusive dialogue between all the actors of the national life to get out of the crisis that the country is going through and to meet the expectations of the population."
