Haiti - Malpasse : The death toll becomes heavier, a 5th customs agent found dead
Tuesday, following the riot of November 24 at the border point of Malpasse in Haiti, which killed 6 including 4 customs agents https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26214-haiti-flash-angry-mob-attacks-the-customs-of-malpasse-at-least-6-dead.html , the authorities confirmed to have found the body in Lake Azuei of a fifth customs officer, bringing to 7 the total number of dead.

Events that provoked a strong reaction from the Head of State who declared "Customs agents and citizens were killed in inhumane conditions on the Malpasse border. Justice must do everything to arrest, judje and condemn the perpetrators and co-perpetrators of this shameful and barbarous crime..."

The customs authorities accused the police of having failed in its mission while Malpasse customs officers had begun to call reinforcements after the confrontation at 9:00 am between the Haitian drivers of 2 vehicles returning from the Dominican Republic and a agent of the customs, Philippe Axiliere who demanded a second control of vehicles that caused the shooting death of one of the drivers and was the beginning of a chain of dramatic events that culminated around 3:00 pm without the reinforcements of the PNH to be at the scene...

In a note, Ronald Décembre, the Minister of the Economy and Finance who learned with dismay of the incidents that occurred on November 24 "bows to the remains of the victims and condemns, with the utmost vigor, these acts of an extreme atrocity. The seriousness of such acts requires that their perpetrators and accomplices be prosecuted quickly to avoid repetition.

The Minister December offers his condolences to the families, collaborators and friends of customs agents, victims in the exercise of their function and wants to assure them of his support in these regrettable and difficult circumstances.

He invites customs personnel to calm and discipline pending the outcome of investigations."

In addition, Jean Bridgens Aristil, spokesman for the mayor of Ganthier, announced that at least two people had already been arrested in this case.

According to our information, the customs officials' funeral will be held this Wednesday at the Parc du Souvenir.
