Haiti - Economy : CCIHC condemns the current situation affecting the country's economy
In a press release, Claude Martin Jr., President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIHC) "condemns with the utmost vehemence the acts of intimidation, violence and terror to which the country is confronted now and that have paralyzed life for several days. We are saddened to see the many losses in human lives and the destruction of property aggravating an already fragile socio-economic environment."

Faced with this situation the CCIHC :

Encourages the Government to take all measures available to remedy this situation. The restoration of public order, Peace and stability remain indispensable to the business development and foreign investments that our economy badly needs. Moreover, it is essential that the corruption characterizing public spending be combated and the guilty punished in accordance with the law.

Congratulates the Haitian National Police (PNH) for its handling of the crisis and asks it to do everything possible to guarantee the safety of life and property. The Prime Minister, as President of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN), must put the means at the disposal of the PNH so that it can carry out this heavy task.

Reiterates its attachment to the constitutional mandates of elected officials and republican institutions while recognizing the right of everyone to the free expression recognized by the Constitution and the freedom of the press. However, it strongly condemns all public incitement to violence, aiming to put the sons and daughters of the Nation against each other and calls on those responsible for Justice to crack down on their perpetrators with the utmost rigor.

Believes that any solution to the end of the crisis must be the subject of a binding and sincere dialogue between the various actors of national life, without exception, in order to allow genuine inclusion.

Claude Martin, asks its members to remain calm and not give in to provocation from wherever it comes.
