Haiti - 215th Independence : Message from the United States Embassy to Haitians

On January 1, 2019, the Embassy of the United States in Haiti congratulates the Haitian people on the occasion of the 215th anniversary of the Independence of Haiti.

"The Haitian revolution changed the course of history in the hemisphere and had an indelible impact on the United States. In the midst of the long struggle for freedom in Haiti, Haitian recruits left the port of St. Marc in 1779 to fight alongside American soldiers during the Battle of Savannah, our own Independence War.

Since these days of revolution, relations between Haitians and Americans are deepening and the dynamism of the American-Haitian community makes the United States and Haiti stronger and more prosperous. The United States looks forward to continuing its partnership with Haiti to strengthen economic growth, the rule of law and security.

Today, the United States continues to stand with Haiti to ensure a stable and prosperous future. To this end, the United States encourages all Haitians to unite to pursue progress by peaceful means. The United States wishes the people of Haiti a happy Independence Day celebration and a new year filled with peace, prosperity and opportunity."
