Haiti - FLASH : Shortage of diesel avoided in Haiti

In a note dated Thursday, January 17 the Ministry of the Economy informs the public in general and distributors of petroleum products in particular, that all the provisions are made to supply the market to avoid any out of stock and invites the population to not panic and go about his business normally. Second call for calm after that of the Secretary of State last January 8 which had ensure that fuels would be available shortly https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-26611-icihaiti-fuel-do-not-panic-call-for-calm.html

Maarten Boute, Maarten Boute, President of Digicel Haiti said "We have received confirmation from our suppliers that Novum Energy's vessels are docked and are starting to unload ! The out of stock diesel https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26678-haiti-news-zapping.html seems to be narrowly avoided. Hoping that a lasting solution is found to this recurring problem..."

According to the National Association of Oil Distributors (ANADIPP), there is a first ship that docked on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm at the Thorland terminal (Carrefour) with on board 205,000 barrels of diesel and a second ship loaded with 150,000 barrels of gasoline at the port of Tevassa (Varreux)

For its part, the Private Sector Economic Forum recalls that by resolution adopted in the Council of Ministers on January 10, 2018, the Ministry of the Economy is authorized to take all the measures deemed useful to ensure the availability, at all times and throughout the country, of petroleum products. The same resolution states that BMPAD is the only one authorized to order the said petroleum products to make them available for consumption throughout the country.

In a note, "The Private Sector Economic Forum is under the obligation to note that the institutions responsible since January 2018 have failed to take steps to ensure regular supply on the Haitian market with petroleum product while they were predictable [...] since there is no indication today of a sustainable solution aiming at a nominalization of the situation and guaranteeing all citizens and all businesses the conditions allowing them to go calmly and without constraints to their occupations, the Forum asks the national authorities to review the provisions of the resolution of 10 January 2018 and to let the operators legally authorized to operate in this sector, to take care of the supply and distribution of petroleum products (diesel, gasoline and kerosene), while maintaining ongoing administrative processes for price determination for the consumers."
