Haiti - Sports : Launch of school sports games 2019

Friday at Parc Ste Thérèse de Pétion-ville were launched the school sports games 2019, under the high patronage of the Presidency and the Primature and under the sign of Peace, Unity and Excellence.

Edwing Charles, the Minister of Youth and Sports said the day before a press conference, during the announcement of the launch "School sports games represent an important means for the Ministry to implement the roadmap government [...] These sports games, now anchored in the Haitian sports tradition, have a high social impact because, in addition to developing the national sports reserve, they allow students to apprehend their institutions differently."

These games are aimed at young people under the age of 17, will run until May across the country and will see nearly 10,000 students compete in 8 disciplines : Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball , Athletics, Judo, Checkers and Chess.

Following the regional and national phases, the champions will represent the country at the Central American Sports Games in November 2019.

Minister Charles pointed out that sport is an important tool in helping children in the learning process. "It helps children to better adapt to learning activities. Hence, the need for the two ministries [sports and education] to associate to supervise young people."

Former René Roosevelt Ministers, Jimmy Albert and Yves Jean Bart, President of the Haitian Football Federation, present at the press conference, applauded the organization of these Games and praised the work of Minister Charles to whom they gave advice. relating to the use of the Ministry's powers and the arrangements to be made for the holding of school sports games.
