Haiti - Social : 34,188 Haitian children registered in the book of foreigners in DR (2017-2018)
Between 2017 and 2018, the Central Electoral Council (JCE), the body responsible for the registration of civil status in the Dominican Republic reveals that 34,947 children of non-resident mothers from at least 36 countries were registered in the book foreigners of whom 34,188 are of Haitian nationality (97.8%).

In 2018, out of 19,227 children of non-resident mothers registered in the book of foreigners, 18,892 are Haitian nationals (98.2%) whereas in 2017 out of 15,676 births of registered foreigners, 15,296 are Haitians (7.5%).

The 2nd country of origin of the mother of the people registered in the book of the foreigners is Venezuela with 241 inscriptions in 2017 and 334 in 2018.

Next come the United States (22 in 2018 and 30 in 2017) registered in the immigration book are national in 2018 and 30 in 2017, China (11 in 2017 and 12 in 2018), Mexico (6 in 2017 and 12 in 2018) and Spain (10 in 2018 and 7 in 2017).

In 2018, Colombia, Chile, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, France, the Netherlands and India registered 4 to 9 nationals while Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Canada, South Korea, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Great Britain, Guatemala, Guyana, Hungary, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Peru and others recorded 1 to 3 births of non-resident mothers.

The opening of an immigration register to record the birth of children of foreign mothers not residing in the country was set up by the JCE by the resolution 02-2007 of 18 April 2007 so that the State is in accordance with the provisions of the international treaties on the right to identity and birth registration.
