81 Gourdes for 1 dollar
The dollar is becoming increasingly rare in Haiti on the local market. In some commercial banks, the sale of the US currency is limited to $100. In a branch, downtown, it was even decided Monday, to suspend the sale of the dollar until further notice. The local currency continues to depreciate, it takes 81 Gourdes on average to buy a US dollar, against 64 Gourdes in January 2018.

Tire Barricades at Delmas
On Monday, at Delmas 2, 4, and 6 several barricades of burning tires were erected. The protesters hostile to the Government denounced the increase of insecurity in Haiti, recalling that since the beginning of the new year, 10 police officers of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) were injured or killed by bullets...

Teachers unions fail
Scheduled for 28 and 29 January, the slogan of a general strike launched by several teachers' unions in the country has not kept its promise the first day. Throughout the various regions, especially in Port-au-Prince, activities were operating as usual.

Nearly $800M shortfall
The economist Pierre Marie Boisson estimates the shortfall for the Treasury to more than 800 million US dollars (more than 64 billion gourdes) in average per year, due to the poor taxation of imports at the borders (nearly $ 300 million), the inability to adjust the prices of petroleum products at the pump (more than 250 million) and grants to Électricité d'Haïti (more than 250 million).

Distribution of more than 300 goats in Roche-à-Bateau
In order to revive livestock farming in areas affected by Hurricane Matthew, the Ministry of Agriculture, through the Strengthening Public Agricultural Services (RESEPAG) project, last weekend distributed several hundred goats in the commune of Roche-à-Bateau. The project is to be implemented in fifteen communes of the departments of South and Grand'Anse. For the first week, 80 families received four goats. According to Jean Marie Robert Chery, Coordinator of RESEPAG, this project will run over a period of 13 months and will involve 3,500 families in targeted areas. A total of 14,000 goats will be distributed.
