Haiti - FLASH : Toll rising at least 28 Haitians die drowned off the Bahamas (UPDATE)

Following the sinking Saturday morning of a Haitian boat-people boat that sank 6 miles offshore from the Abaco Islands north of the Bahamas archipelago, a provisional report indicated 16 fellow drowned dead and 15 survivors https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26829-haiti-flash-shipwreck-off-the-islands-of-abaco-16-dead-and-15-haitian-survivors.html

However, the research that continued on Sunday allowed the rescue teams to find 2 survivors of Haitian origin on a nearby island, while the divers of the Royal Defense Force of the Bahamas (RBDF) discovered more than a dozen other bodies without life in the wreck of the boat.

On Sunday, as search operations continued, Jonathan Rolle, Chief of the Bahamas Defense Force, confirmed that the provisional toll now stands at 17 Haitian survivors and 28 dead in this tragic tragedy of the sea.

Recall that since the beginning of the year the RBDF has participated in 5 interceptions during which nearly 300 Haitians were arrested, brought to justice for illegal entry into the territory of the Bahamas and sentenced to be repatriated to Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26652-haiti-flash-first-flight-of-haitians-deported-from-the-bahamas-expected-today.html

Last minute : According to Bahamian immigration, 87 Haitians could have been on the boat carrying migrants who hit a reef and sunk near the islands of Abaco.
