Haiti - Security : DR strengthens border and evacuates consular staff in Haiti
On Monday, staff of the Dominican consulate in Ounaminthe, Haiti, was evacuated following demonstrations in the city since last Saturday, which killed at least one person and made several wounded in the Haitian population.

The Ministry of Defense has ordered the reinforcement of the border with more equipment, men and logistical means, confirmed Major-General Estanislao Regalado, member of Joint Task Force "Cerco Fronterizo" who inspected on Sunday the military security and border surveillance in Dajabón.

At the Beller fortress in Dajabón, military troops and all-terrain vehicles with machine guns are stationed as well as a riot truck. Helicopters and other technological means used for border control have been deployed for enhanced border surveillance.

Commercial activities in the Dajabón border market have been reduced by more than 60% due to transportation paralysis and lack of security in Haiti preventing Haitian buyers and sellers from getting to and from the market border.
