Haiti - Economy : Dominican Republic militarizes its gas stations at the border
Saturday, following the scarcity of fuel in Haiti, the military agencies of the Dominican Republic militarized on Sunday the gas stations on the Haitian border.

A military source said the militarization of stations along the border was aimed at preventing the transfer of fuel to the neighboring country and will be extended for as long as necessary stating "These measures are aimed at preventing the smuggling of fuel at petrol stations on the border of the country, in addition to ensuring strict control of vehicles moving in this area to avoid illegal transportation of fuel."

Recall that since the beginning of fuel supply problems in Haiti aggravated by socio-political unrest for more than 10 days, the Dominican refinery Refidomsa PDV, has strengthened its controls of shipping of fuels on its territory, because of the abnormal demand for border service stations, resulting from the fuel shortage in Haiti, particularly in the North, in recent weeks.

Recall that due to lack of fuel a large influx of Haitians crossing the Dominican territory to buy gasoline and other fuels has been reported at the border https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26705-haiti-dr-haitian-taxi-motos-get-fuel-in-dajabon.html
