Haiti - Sports : Towards the creation of a Sports Medicine Unit in the country

Edwing Charles, the Minister of Youth and Sports held a working session with Greta Roy Clément, the Minister of Public Health, around the creation of a Sports Medicine Unit for the benefit of athletes from all the Federations...

This UMS will put preventive medicine at the service of our athletes to anticipate or detect silent pathologies such as diabetes and high blood pressure among others. In addition, the Minister Charles intends to take advantage of the resumption of sports cooperation with Cuba to make available to our athletes, specialists in sports medicine during the preparation of national and international competitions.

Commending the partnership between the two ministries, the Minister clement has promised to exploit for this purpose, the material and human resources of the Haitian Institute of Rehabilitation (IHR) based in Bon Repos for the establishment of this Medical Unit Athletic.

In this perspective, the Minister Charles wished the signature soon of a protocol of agreement for the materialization of this ambitious project, saying to seek "free quality, specialized and direct care for the benefit of all the sportsmen in Federation" adding "We are delighted with this project and with the support of the IHR, we will create a new structure to provide generalized or specialized medical care, particularly in physiotherapy, to our athletes."
