Haiti - Social : The NGO Villages d'Enfants, alongside girls against gender inequality 10/03/2019 09:40:20 The NGO on this commemorative day, underlines that adolescents in general and girls in particular, because of their age, regularly suffer multiple social pressures preventing them from expressing their autonomy, stating "Models based on stereotypes and myths define expectations about the ways of being, acting, speaking, dressing and deciding make it difficult for young women to carry out autonomous life projects based on their desires, interests and primarily, their rights." On the other hand, the organization recalls that limited access to technical and university training in areas where men participation predominates, is an obstacle to the integration of girls and women in certain sectors, leaving aside their rights and their abilities. In this context, SOS Villages d'Enfants Haïti works to find equal relationships between men and women and carries out actions to promote spaces for advocacy for the recognition of the rights of women and girls, encourages the strengthening of the participation of adolescents to public spaces, as an essential action for social transformation and creates spaces for sensitization with adolescents and young men, for the development of alternative masculinities that lead to changing asymmetrical relationships and the roles of socially established and reproduced gender. "Equal rights have led to many achievements, but much remains to be done. Organizations, the State and society as a whole can help ensure that girls, adolescents and young people have a present and a future without any form of discrimination or violence. Says the NGO, which is launching a campaign to make visible the situation of inequality lived daily by girls and adolescents, which limits their development and the full exercise of their rights.
