Haiti - Politic : Women parliamentarians, Haiti ranked 185th out of 188 countries
Thursday, April 4 at 2:30 pm at the Convention Center of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) the Ministry of Culture held the closing ceremony of the International Forum : "Women, Peace and Political Participation" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27368-haiti-politic-without-women-there-is-no-balance-dixit-martine-moise.html

The international community that has joined this important forum around the political participation of Haitian women has encouraged all stakeholders to pool their energies to make women's political participation a reality in Haiti at all levels.

At the invitation of the organizers, Michel-Ange Gédéon, Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) spoke on the 2nd day and pleaded for greater participation of the Haitian woman in public affairs.

Recall that the Haitian woman is largely under-represented in politics. Out of 192 political parties, only 17 presented 23 women as candidates against 209 men... Currently in the Haitian Parliament, only 4 women sit: Senator Dieudonne Luma Etienne (PHTK / North) only woman to sit in the Senate out of 29 senators and 3 women sit as deputies (out of 119 deputies) Raymonde Rival (APLA party); Saint Jean Marie Gladyce Lundy (Bouclier) and Guerda Bellevue Benjamin Alexandre (APLA Party)

Excerpt from the intervention of Michel-Ange Gédéon :

"Today, Haiti ranks very poorly in the table of women parliamentarians and ranks 185th out of 188 countries. Aware of the problem, we have inserted the 30% quota in our amended Constitution through Article 17.1. This should make us aware that we make quota a major concern in our decisions. What about today ? [...] Our observations are very sad. The prospects give hope a little. But what needs to be done concretely ?

Society must commit to taking change options in the direction of women's emancipation. I think it has to start from home to continue in school and church as socializing organs. An Indian proverb tells us 'If you teach a man, you teach to a person. If you teach a woman, you teach the whole family.' It follows then that the change of the society passes by the framework of the women [...]

If we do not defend the woman today, who will defend our daughters tomorrow ? The gains are today, but the effects are for tomorrow. Let's fight against the under-representation of women, defend women today to defend our daughters of tomorrow. The elections are for tomorrow, women, get on the job to better represent us !

Woman is the other way of saying together intelligence, love, grace and patience of God.

I would like to conclude with this quotation from Ghandi 'If non-violence is the law of humanity, the future belongs to women' [...]"
