Haiti - Politic : Mirlande Manigat and Jerry Tardieu for a return to the presidential regime in Haiti 11/05/2019 09:08:16
On May 8th, in the packed amphitheater of the Faculty of Medicine of the State University of Haiti, at the initiative of the youth organizations Collectif Group and Acting for Youth (APAJE), the Deputy Jerry Tardieu, Chairman of the Special Committee on the Constitutional Amendment of the Lower House, and Constitutionalist and Professor Mirlande Manigat presented at a conference their vision on the need for a new political regime in Haiti around the theme "Is the political regime an obstacle to Haiti's progress ?" The two speakers agreed on the need for another political regime, they plead for a Presidential regime (1 President and Vice President elected, and the removal of the Primature), Mirlande Manigat believes that we will have to put limits to prevent totalitarian drifts as part of the return to the presidential regime in Haiti. On the other hand, on the means to change the Constitution, the two parties disagree on ways and means. Mirlande Manigat wants a new Constitution. Jerry Tardieu believes that a new constitution can be done through successive substantial amendments that have been outlined in the 30 proposals of the Commission's report he presides.
