Haiti - Economy : 72-hours of strike suspension at the Ministry of Commerce
On strike since April 22, employees of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MCI) have decided to suspend their strike.

This decision comes after an agreement that would have been reached with the Ministry and employees on their many demands (better working conditions, end of favoritism, computers and other equipment for offices...) However, the strikers give 72 hours to the Ministry to implement this agreement, otherwise they threaten to resume their blocking movement.

A blockage whose consequences are far from negligible for the economy of Haiti already in difficulty, since this strike, according to George B. Sassine President of the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH), has affected the issuance of export visas for some outsourcing contractors [...] A deplorable situation that contributes to discouraging foreigners from investing in Haiti.

The President of the ADIH had written to Minister Ronell Gilles on April 24 to ask him to intervene urgently to end this strike "[...] Minister, the Association of Industries of Haiti has learned with frightened that an employee strike is taking place in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This situation puts at risk nearly 60,000 jobs in the export sector because it is impossible to obtain the visa allowing the shipment of goods to the United States of America.
