Haiti - Agriculture : Max François Milien receives the Meritorious Award 2019
The World Organization for Animal Health has awarded the Meritorious Award 2019 to agronomist Dr. Max François Milien, from Verrettes, for his dedication and contribution to the process of agricultural and rural development in Haiti, rewarding his most successful actions of the veterinary profession for the benefit of humanity and in particular of his native land, Haiti. This award was presented on Sunday 26 May in Paris at a ceremony organized by the International Organization for Animal Health (OIE), on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 87th General Session of the delegates to the World Assembly of that Organization.

This award recognizes internationally the work of a personality who has contributed to the advancement of veterinary science and/or animal disease control from a technical, scientific and administrative point of view.

Graduated in 1971 at the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (FAMV). He was at the Veterinary School of Toulouse in France for specialization studies in veterinary medicine. He received a law degree from the Faculty of Law of Port-au-Prince, Haiti (1968). He has held several academic positions as Vice Dean of Research and Professor at the FAMV. He crossed all the technical and administrative levels within the Ministry of Agriculture to become Director of the Agricultural Research and Documentation Center (1984-1991) then 1994-1997), Director of the Quarantine Division and Director of the Tamarinier Laboratory (1991-1994) and Director of the Sanitary Protection Unit (UPS) (1997-2000)
