Haiti - Floods : The balance sheet is heavier, 5 dead, 3 people missing and significant damage
The Direction of the Civil Protection (DPC) informs that following the torrential rains which fell on the department of the West during the night from July 2 to 3, consequence of the passage of a tropical wave, it occurred some sudden flash and flooding in the metropolitan area.

2 deaths including a girl and a boy were reported by the Communal Committee of the DPC of Port-au-Prince, related to the floods at Avenue Christophe near the high school Jean-Jacques and 3 other deaths were confirmed in Cité Soleil.

At Pèlerin 1, the flash floods caused the fall of a retaining wall which in turn led to the destruction of a dozen small houses. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28138-haiti-weather-floods-in-the-metropolitan-area-partial-assessment.html . The report of the Commune Committee of the DPC of Pétion-Ville states :

- 3 missing persons;
- 5 injured people;
- 5 flooded houses;
- 12 houses destroyed.

In the commune of Carrefour, the Communal Committee proceeded in time to the evacuation of the inhabitants at risk. The emergency teams have been mobilized to carry out the damage assessment and are still there to assist the population. Flows of alluvium and mud still disrupt traffic in some areas of the commune and teams are hard at work to manage the situation.

It should be noted that the rescue and evacuation operations were carried out jointly by several relief units of the DPC, the National Ambulance Center (CAN) and the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

Moreover, these torrential rains have not spared the electricity network : 25 out of 45 circuits no longer working for various reasons related to the passage of the tropical wave including : landslide, fallen poles, broken cables... The technicians of the Electricité d'Haïti (EDH) are on the ground and are working to remedy this situation as quickly as possible.

The DPC and the Hydro-Meteorological Unit inform the population that there are unstable meteorological conditions prevailing in the Caribbean Basin and rainy and thunderstorm activities could still affect the country on Thursday and Friday.

Civil Protection calls on the populations of these comunes and other areas at risk of flooding, landslides... of the country, to vigilance and asks them to apply scrupulously the practical instructions of safety in case of showers and thunderstorms.
