Haiti - FLASH USA : More than 1,000 illegal Haitians arrested at the Texan border

After announcing the arrest of 205 Haitians in an irregular migratory situation on June 22 and 24, the border authorities responsible for the Del Rio sector, between central Texas and Mexico, revealed that since June 10, more than 1,000 Haitian migrants who had illegally crossed the Rio Grande have been arrested.

Raul L. Ortiz, Patrol Leader of the Del Rio Sector, points out that many of the Haitian migrants left Haiti many years ago to settle in South American countries and have now decided to migrate again to the United States, perhaps to take advantage of the shortcomings of US immigration and asylum laws and to take advantage of the record flow of migrant families crossing the border... pointing out that more than 230 arrested children are nationals from Brazil and Chile but are the biological children of Haitian migrants.

"Our agents are seeing an increase in the number of Haitian nationals entering the country illegally, which poses problems that we face [...] we will continue to do everything in our power to take care of these family units with children very young," said Ortiz.

Note that in the Del Rio sector there are large numbers of non-Mexican migrants who cross the border illegally. Of the more than 40,000 migrants arrested during the year 80% were from the North Triangle region of Central America. However, in the past two months, the sector has reported a large number of migrants from Central Africa and Haiti.
