Haiti - Grand'Anse : Launch of the 1st Edition of the Summer University
As part of the implementation of the project "Support to conflict resolution and the promotion of social cohesion in the city of Jérémie", UN Women Haiti in collaboration with the Mayor of Jérémie and the Public University of the Grand 'Anse UPGA, officially launched the 1st Edition of the Grand'Anse Summer University.

Claude Hary Milord the Mayor of Jérémie, in his speech, welcomed the implementation of this project that will significantly reduce violence of all kinds in the city of Jérémie.

This summer univeristy intends to train 200 young men and women for three months in leadership, citizen participation and gender equity. With this intensive training, UN Women and its partners want its young people to become actors-actors of stability.

"We are launching this Summer University with pride and belief that it will serve as a powerful lever to bring about the changes in behavior and attitudes we all want for a community in harmony with itself," said launch Dédé Ékoué, the UN Women Haiti Representative.

Dr.Jean Rony Medy Rector of UPGA, speaking to the 200 young people, chosen for their particular skills and despite their vulnerability, to be applied and to give themselves completely "It is only at this price that you can thank the promoters of this initiative."

UN Women recalls that too many young people are deprived of the opportunity to participate fully in society. For girls, the barriers to participation are even greater. However, it has been shown that when empowerment is increased and given the opportunity, young people are effective drivers of change. It is in this dynamic that UN Women partners with the Mayor of Jérémie and the Public University of Grand'Anse to help them take part in the decisions that concern them and strengthen their capacity to advance fundamental rights and development issues, particularly with regard to women's rights and gender-based violence.
