Haiti - Environment : The Minister talks with the strikers of the SNGRS and gives his word...
Thursday at Maïs Gâté, Joseph Jouthe, Minister of the Environment, went to the premises of the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS) to inquire in person about the demands of employees on strike since Monday, July 15 2019 and make an assessment of their working conditions.

In discussions with the Minister, the employees denounced the mismanagement of the SNGRS officials, the lack of working materials. They took the opportunity to claim their appointment in the public administration and the payment of more than 4 months of salary arrears.

Minister Jouthe was surprised to learn that many of these employees had been working for more than 20 years as a contractor, in this autonomous Directorate General of the Ministry, without having ever been appointed

Jouthe told the strikers that "all arrangements will be made at the highest level of the State to urgently resolve the problem of wage arrears". As for the nomination file, he promised them to inquiries in order to take a decision that could correct this situation that he considers "unacceptable" concluding on a promise "I understand your suffering, I give you my word that even after my departure from this post, I will continue to follow up to make real changes in your working conditions."

At the end of this meeting, employees and members of the SNGRS union promised to unblock the Maïs-Gâté Avenue whose obstruction affects traffic and the population.
