After removing in December 2018, two direct flights to Port-au-Prince from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) from New York or from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), American Airlines announces a new reduction, this time temporary, of its daily direct flights between Miami and Port-au-Prince which are now 2 flights to 1 only from August 20, 2019, this reduction is expected to last until November 2, 2019.

American Airlines spokeswoman Martha Pantin says the reduction is due to cancellations of about 115 American Airlines daily flights, due to the Boeing 737 Max's still-in-ground hold.

Although it is not the only airline to fly to Haiti, American Airlines is the only US carrier offering daily flights to Port-au-Prince, it only competes with Air France from Miami. But where Air France offers only one flight a day from the Miami International Airport to go to Port-au-Prince, American currently offers two options : 6:01 and 10:51.

Following this reduction, Martha Pantin announces that the remaining American Airlines daily flight will depart from Miami International Airport at 2:39 pm and arrive at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince at 4:46 pm and Miami destination will leave at 5:46 pm and will arrive at 8 pm.
