Public transport passengers ransomed

Tuesday morning at Estère (Artibonite) twenty heavily armed individuals, mounted on a dozen motorcycles, intercepted several public transport vehicles, to ransom passengers, going so far as to force some passengers to undress to better strip them. These highwaymen escaped before the police arrived... No injuries were recorded, but several passengers were emotionally shocked.

La Dessalinienne has 100 years

100 years ago, on August 5, 1919, the song entitled "La Dessalinienne" lyrics and music by Justin Lhérisson and Nicolas Geffrard, was declared "Haitian National Chant". The single article was published in the Official Journal "Le Moniteur" on Wednesday, August 13, 1919. The Dessalinienne was confirmed national anthem by article 136-3 of the general provisions, title IX, of the constitution of 1946.

A chicken farm in prison

In the Hinche prison, detainees have been involved since January 2019 in an unusual project, a chicken farm in the penitentiary. A way for the Directorate of the National Penitentiary Administration to improve the conditions of detention through food, but also to contribute to the social reintegration of 116 prisoners who have trained in poultry techniques. Occupying the inmates and reducing the risk of reoffending is the goal of this 6-month project in partnership with the Society of Agricultural Transformation Services and funded by the Minujusth Community Violence Reduction program.

Emergency assistance to 6,400 families

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) signed an agreement for emergency assistance and livelihoods rehabilitation 6,400 families affected by drought in the communes of Capotille, Ouanaminthe, Fort-Liberté and Ferrier (North-East).
