Haiti - Social : The Dominican Republic defends its right to repatriate illegal
On the sidelines of World Economic Forum for Latin America, held in Rio de Janeiro last week, the Dominican President, Leonel Fernàndez defended the right of the Dominican Republic to repatriate all foreigners living illegally in its territory, on behalf national sovereignty.

"Every day, many Dominicans are repatriated from Puerto Rico and the United States. This phenomenon occurs globally. No country can cope with mass immigration," said the President Fernàndez. Insisting on the right of States to manage the presence of foreigners on their territory according to their interests he recalled that the US administration had to build a wall on the Mexican-American border to cope with massive illegal immigration.

"Repatriation is a subject we talk every day in different parts of the world. The Dominican Republic is obliged to place it in the exercise of its national sovereignty as happens everywhere" explaining that despite the generosity of the Dominican Republic, his country can not handle the situation of poverty in Haiti "without risking to fall in the same situation".

Repatriations of undocumented Haitians who live in the Dominican Republic, is a recurring problem, frequently used by organizations of Human Rights who allege violations of human rights, explained the President Fernández who intends to maintain his migration policy of repatriation.
