Haiti - Politic : Topics of the meeting between Martelly and Fernández

As we announced this morning, the President-elect Michel Martelly, flew in the morning for the Dominican Republic for an official visit of few hours. On this occasion, Mr. Martelly, who has been accompanied by a delegation composed of; Chief of Cabinet, Mr. Thierry Mayard Paul, of the advisers Mr. Laurent Lamothe and Mr. Daniel Rouzier and the Dominican Ambassador to Haiti, Mr. Ruben Silie Valdez, will meet at the National Palace with Dominican President, Leonel Fernández and his Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso.

During this interview, the emphasis will be placed particularly on the immigration issue and the provisions which will be adopted to achieve the redevelopment of the commune border of Malpasse as well as the development of the customs in the other crossing points, in order to help the strengthening of controls for a reduction of smuggling and tax evasion.

The President Martelly, will benefit from this visit for invite officially the Dominican Head of State to the ceremony of his inauguration on May 14, he will signify to the latter his willingness to work with the administration Fernández. The rehabilitation of the haitiano-Dominican Joint Committee will be also a central point among the topics that will be discussed during this meeting.

The Dominican Republic is the second largest trading partner of Haiti, the President Martelly shares with his counterpart his willingness to work for the promotion of investment and the facilitation of procedures for an improvement of trade between the two countries.

This travel of few hours will allow the President elected to explain to our Dominican neighbors, the new direction which he intends to give to the management of the business of the country in order to establish the bases of a future co-operation for the benefit of two countries.
