Friday the Departmental Unit of Maintenance of the Order (UDMO) base, a special unit of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) located in the comune of Cité Soleil was still "besieged" since the previous day by anti-government protesters, who had erected barricades of burning tires at the entrance to the base, paralyzing a lot of the activities of that special unit.

In order to avoid a clash and a bloodbath in the population, thanks to the cover of an armored vehicle of the "Swat Team" the UDMO agents helped by other units of the PNH come in reinforcement, have be able to evacuate under protection their vehicles, materials, equipment, weapons and ammunition before abandoning the base...

Barely gone the protesters rushed into the base to vandalize and loot it, taking away all that was left - furniture, uniforms, boots, mattresses and other items - before setting fire to the base and fleeing with their booty.

The PNH confirmed the looting, noting that the demonstrators had not won anything, since all the weapons and ammunition had been evacuated before the demonstrators entered the base, stating that UDMO agents were currently housed in another base, that everything was under control and that the Intervention Unit was already operating in the streets of the capital.
