Haiti - Engineering : Haiti Winner at the International Structural Awards 2019 20/11/2019 08:59:01 Haiti was competing in two categories: the Award for Structures in Extreme Conditions and the Sustainability Award with its project "La Référence" www.istructe.org/structuralawards/the-shortlist/sustainability/la-reference a charitable engineering project to build a new high school. Located in Ganthier in a highly seismic and hurricane-prone area and a hurricane-prone area, the resilience of the school was paramount. This school was built with limited access to building materials and its design required a lot of creativity. A lot of time was spent educating and training workers, artisans and the local community during the construction process. The jury, made up of a group of eminent experts from the sector, awarded the Haiti Sustainability Award for its project "La Référence" Chair of the judges, Professor Tim Ibell, comments "Many congratulations to all the winners [...] Each year the quality of the projects keeps getting better [...] Now in its 52nd year, these prestigious awards celebrate the world’s most outstanding achievements and demonstrate the diversity of structural engineering, recognising excellence, creativity and innovation, as well as sustainability, economic viability and value for money."
