Haiti - FLASH : A French couple killed by bullets in front of their hotel

On Sunday afternoon, two French citizens Mélina (41) and Alexandre (44) from Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche (France) were shot dead in Port-au-Prince, where they had just arrived in the framework of an adoption procedure that had obtained the authorizations of the Haitian authorities (2013 and 2018).

The couple for whom it was their first trip to Haiti came to meet the two children, a brother and his sister, as part of a stay of a fortnight called socialization. They did not have to leave with the children after this stay.

The couple, who had just arrived at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, was taken care of by a taxi, booked by the French Adoption Association (AFA). They would have be killed when they arrived at their hotel in a district of Delmas. The assumption of an attempted armed robbery that would have gone wrong is privileged but not officially confirmed.

According to witnesses, the couple could have been tracked from the airport.

Monday night, the Quai d'Orsay spoke about this tragedy

"It was with great emotion that we learned of the deaths of two compatriots in Haiti following an assault.

We express our condolences to their families and loved ones.

As soon as it was informed, our Embassy mobilized. It is in contact with the local authorities so that all the light is shed on this tragedy.

The crisis and support center of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs supports families to support and support them."

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends to French citizens to postpone any trip to Haiti until further notice, except in case of absolute necessity, the whole of the Haitian territory is to be avoided,
