Haiti - FLASH : Vandalism and violence, the manifest opposition against international interference

On Friday, a few hundred highly motivated people, waving placards and shouting hostile slogans against the Government and especially against the United States, demonstrated in the metropolitan area at the opposition's call against the interference of the international community in Haiti's internal affairs and against US support for the Moïse Government, while US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Halle and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Cynthia Kierscht are in Haiti for advocate dialogue...

Despite a large police force and a relatively weak mobilization, several private and public transport vehicles were vandalized on the passage of demonstrators, many of whom were masked. Stones were thrown at businesses and private companies, tires were ignited and a cement truck was set on fire at the Airport Road as protesters headed for the US Embassy in Tabarre.

Several leaders of the radical opposition (Nènel Cassy and Me André Michel among others) were seen during this event.

Protesters outside the US Embassy clashed with a barrage of agents from the Intervention and Maintenance Corps (CIMO) who responded with heavy use of tear gas to disperse the protesters. One person was shot and injured at the Carrefour de l'Aéroport (unconfirmed official information).

Finally, the opposition, heavily surrounded by helmeted policemen, armed with bullet-proof vests and shields, delivered a message to the US Embassy which in summary reaffirms their position : no dialogue, no negotiation, no cohabitation with President Jovenel Moïse but only his unconditional resignation.
