Haiti - FLASH : Dominican Republic will build a 17-km long
The Dominican Republic is going to build a border wall at the Mal Paso border post in Jimaní, in the province of Independencia. This wall of 17 kilometers, out of 376 kilometers of the border which separates the two countries of the island, will be built in Dominican territory, on a North-North axis according to the Dominican military authorities.

However. It should be noted as was the case during the construction by the Dominicans of the multi-agency complex located in the province Comendador Elías Piña not far from Belladère https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27122-haiti-security-the-dominicans-explain-the-construction-work-at-the-border.html , that Enrique Ramírez Paniagua, the Director General of the Dominican Customs avoided to use the term of wall" to designate this border infrastructure, ensuring that it is more of a perimeter fence to protect customs facilities and make tax collection more efficient, against smuggling, drug trafficking in the region and human trafficking...

Customs has already issued a tender for the purchase of materials exclusively and has drawn up guidelines for the legal process of this wall to be built by the Ministry of Defense and which encompasses the area covered by the border crossing of Mal Paso, in Jimani, which besides its strong commercial dynamics, constitutes a privileged place for the illegal migration of Haitians.

Asked by the Spanish news agency EFE about the intentions of some candidates for the Dominican Presidency of 2020 (including Ramfis Domínguez Trujillo, PNVC and Quique Antún PRSC) who want to copy President Donald Trump and advocates the construction of a wall on the border with Haiti, President Jovenel Moïse replied that his only interest is what happens inside Haiti's borders and the maintenance of the principle of respect for the sovereignty of the entire Haitian territory as stipulated the Constitution.
