Haiti - Politic : 1.5 million Gourdes subsidy paid to the families of fallen officers

Rameau Normil, the General Director ai of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) informs the public opinion in general and parents, husbands or wives of police officers died on duty, that the accounting practices of the Ministry of Economy and of Finance prohibit the issue of new checks on behalf of a police officer or of an administrative employee who has died in the performance of his duties.

Also, to prevent checks issued in the name of a deceased civil servant from being assimilated to "zombie" checks, the PNH General Directorate was able to obtain from the Ministry the privilege of replacing these salary checks with checks of monthly subsidy for the benefit of the rights of the deceased, up to the majority of children.

This Directorate takes the opportunity to remind those interested in the issue, that it has already issued, during the month of November 2019, 204 allowance checks in the name of the rightful owners of deceased Police Officers in office.

These checks covered 6 months of arrears for a total amount of 1.5 million gourdes (1,507,096). The Directirate notes that 36 subsidy checks remained unclaimed in the accounting department of the PNH.

Rameau Normil is taking the opportunity to remind the families of recently deceased police officers that they must go to the Staff Directorat to begin the administrative steps related to the funeral preparations, the disbursement of the insurance premium or the subscription to the program of monthly subsidy established by the State for the benefit of the beneficiaries of police officers who have died in the exercise of their functions.
