Bocchit Edmond, the Minister of Foreign Affairs answering questions from Taiwan Info during an interview, explained why bilateral cooperation between Haiti and Taiwan (Republic of China) is one of Haiti's development priorities.

"Cooperation between Taiwan and Haiti is beneficial to both countries and two peoples, because it is based not only on friendship and trust, but on shared community values. This cooperation meets the priorities of the Government of Haiti in the terms of the agreements signed in different areas meeting the needs of Haiti.

Haiti’s presence alongside Taiwan is a major asset for that country's international policy. We are, in fact, two countries with a desire for friendship and fraternity to support each other. This will is already expressed both nationally and internationally in various actions and positions that we have taken on subjects of common and particular interest.

Our diplomatic relations are increasingly strong and reassuring. The visits of the heads of State of the two countries confirm the vitality of bilateral relations. This is proof of a reciprocal partnership which continues to have a future for the two countries and the two peoples.

The technical and financial contribution of Taiwan is indisputable in various strategic areas of socio-economic development ranging from agriculture and energy to education and health and road infrastructure. Haiti considers Taiwan to be an essential partner in its development plans."
