Haiti - FLASH : At the diplomatic headquarters of the Vatican in Haiti, political actors dialogue

Tuesday at the initiative of Helen La Lime, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Haiti and head of the new UN mission (UNINH) : party leaders and political groups from the moderate opposition and close to power, representatives of civil society organizations, local authorities, the presidency, of Helen La Lime, the apostolic nuncio and representatives of the Organization of American States (OAS), far from microphones and cameras, gathered at the Apostolic Nunciature, the Vatican's official diplomatic seat in Morne-Calvaire, whose premises for the occasion benefited from an imposing security system of the PNH and special units, to try to find a peaceful and consensual solution to emerging from the crisis.

It’s Mgr. Eugene Martin Nugent, the Apostolic Nuncio of Haiti, around 9:30 a.m. who made the opening remarks of this first day, which ended around 6:00 p.m.

A press release issued at the end of this first day bearing the signature of 15 participants, specifies that the exchanges took place in a friendly atmosphere, that the discussions focused on understanding the crisis and the participants agreed on the formula to use to ensure the participation of all the actors present and on a work agenda. At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed to continue the discussions this Wednesday, December 18, 2019.

Signatories of the press release are : Déjean Bélizaire, president of the MNP28; Louis Gonzague Edner Day (Patrayil); Liné Balthazar, President of PHTK; Rébécaline Ziky Décelmond National Federation of Haitian Mayors (FENAMH); deputy Rolphe Papillon (Consortium); Victor Benoît, President of the Democratic Bloc; Rosemond Pradel (Mache Kontre); Colombe Émilie Jessy Ménos and Rénald Lubérice, Representatives of the Presidency; Rose Anne Auguste, Sectoral General States of the Nation; Charles Tardieu and Joseph Domingue Orgella of the Passerelle; Éric-Jean Baptiste, Secretary General of the Rally of National Progressive Democrats (RDNP); Senator Joseph Lambert, coordinator of KONA and Paul Denis of INIFOS.

According to one of the participants, the formation of a government was not discussed on Tuesday.

It is noted that representatives of the radical opposition refused the invitation and were conspicuous by their absence.
