Haiti - FLASH : 56 Mw electricity project for Cap-Haitien

As part of the "Department of North Electrification Program", Evenson Calixte, Director General of the National Authority for the Regulation of the Energy Sector (ANARSE) announced the construction of a 40-megawatt power plant in natural gas and 16 Mw of photovoltaic (solar) electricity in Cap-Haitien.

He explained that this gas power plant, which will require the renovation of regional grids, will supply electricity to the communes of Cap-Haïtien, Plaine-du-Nord, Limbé, Bas-Limbé, Acul-du-Nord, Port-Margot and great North of Rivière.

Solar micro-grids will also be built in Borgne, Bahon, Plaisance, Pilate and Dondon. In remote and isolated communities, an individual “Kay Pa m Klere” solar system will be offered.

Evenson Calixte recalled that the communes of St-Raphaël, Pignon and Ranquitte are already supplied by the Péligre hydroelectric plant and that Quartier-Morin will be electrified thanks to the Caracol power plant which has just benefited of a $22 million from the Bank Inter-American Development Agency (IDB and the American Agency for International Development (USAID - Haiti) for the construction of a 12 MW solar power plant.

Finally Calixte confirmed that the tenders for the construction of the Cap-Haitien power plant have already been launched and that the pre-selection of firms will be made in January 2020.
