Haiti - Agriculture : The Government has paid tribute to the Dominican assistance 16/05/2011 11:54:14 During the ceremony, where was present among others: the Dominican Ambassador to Haiti, Ruben Silié, the representative in Haiti of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture IICA), Alfredo Mena and various political personalities, Joanna Gué stressed the cooperation received from the Dominican agricultural authorities. Recalling that when the tragedy occurred, the Minister Jiménez has put to his service the offices of the Dominican Ministry of Agriculture. Following the event, the Dominican minister ordered the dispatch of 30 tractors and heavy equipment, with their respective operators to help Haitian farmers, in this way, they have prepared more than 100,000 hectares. Joanna Gué has also emphasized the excellent cooperation and technical assistance received from the Dominican Minister and his team in the preparation of an agricultural project which was presented to international cooperation, qualifying of "invaluable" the technical assistance received, adding that thanks to it, the Haitians now have an agricultural development project for five years, with a planned investment of $800 million. On receiving the distinction Salvador Jiménez, thanked the gesture on behalf of agricultural producers and of the Dominican people and has explained that the contribution of the Dominican authorities to the Haitian agriculture was part of the solidarity expressed by the President Leonel Fernández.
