Haiti - Chile : Chilean deputies vote for the creation of a Commission of Inquiry into the rapes in Haiti 08/01/2020 09:09:22
Following the intervention of the Vice-President of the Chilean Senate, Senator Alfonso de Urresti of the Socialist Party (Main Opposition Party) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29695-haiti-chile-the-chilean-opposition-wants-to-know-what-happened-to-the-rapes-in-haiti.html the Socialist opposition Deputy Jaime Naranjo submitted Monday to the Chamber of Deputies a proposal to create a commission of inquiry, supported by 84 members of different parties on the alleged involvement of the Chilean military in cases of rape of women, girls and minors during the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission (MINUSTAH) in Haiti, between 2004 and 2017.
Proposal rejected for lack of quorum (62).
Tuesday, following the failure of the previous day, the project was again presented and the Chamber of Deputies finally approved at 54% (38 votes for, 3 against and 30 abstentions) the creation of this Commission of inquiry on the alleged sexual abuse of Chilean peacekeepers in Haiti.
