Haiti - Politic : The Minister Cadet at the Ascension Mixed College on the scene of the dramatic accident
Thursday, Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet, The Minister of National Education, accompanied in particular by Ronyde Imbert, assistant to the Departmental Directorate of Education of the West, Louisy Norton Security Coordinator and the principal inspector of Pétion-ville school district, went to the Ascension mixed college located street Beauvais (Delmas 105, not far from the Saint-Jean Bosco church of Pétion-ville), where it occurred in the morning of Wednesday, January 22 a dramatic accident which killed 6 students

A student dead and 5 injured, this is the balance of this drama involving a truck that crashed into and destroyed the front wall of the school on a group of children https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29837-haiti-flash-a-truck-strucks-a-school-at-least-5-student-victims.html being on the courtyard around 8:15 am

The aim was for Minister Cadet to express his sympathies to the victims and to the management of the establishment and to inquire into the circumstances of this accident and to consider the appropriate measures to be taken. The Minister met with Saiul Charles Petit-Homme the Director of the school and Mertilien Wilnick the educational officer.

Cadet said that measures will be considered with several State institutions to free the streets in the immediate surroundings of schools transformed into public markets.

Remember that before talking about new measures, the respect of those that exist must be. Remember that to ensure the safety of students, traffic is prohibited on heavy equipment and trucks before 9:00 a.m.

The Minister also intends to support the parents of the deceased child in this dramatic situation.

Of the 5 injured students rushed to hospital, four have already returned home. The fifth, with more serious shoulder and head injuries, is still hospitalized at Bernard Mews Hospital.

A two-day work stoppage was observed at the College (Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24), in memory of the deceased student and in solidarity with the injured children and the affected parents. Repair work is underway for the reconstruction of the wall.
