Haiti - FLASH : Clashes in Champ-de-Mars, at least a dozen victims (Provisional assessment)

At midday, when bursts of automatic weapons were reported in Delmas, Bourdon, Nazon, Lalue, more than a hundred "police officers" demonstrators and hooded individuals arriving on the Champ-de-Mars, fired shots in front of the General Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H) next to the National Palace, to which the soldiers replied by firing warning shots in the air.

Lieutenant-General Jodel Lesage, Commander-in-Chief of the Haitian Armed Forces, confirmed the attack on the Headquarters by hooded individuals, armed with firearms and automatic rifles, launching Molotov cocktails and tear gas canisters and the military's measured response against the individuals who attacked them.

A second press note from the Ministry of Defense’s Communication Unit and the Army’s High Command Secretariat said, "Despite repeated assaults by the assailants, military authorities maintained a defensive stance to avoid bloodshed. The High Command of the Armed Forces once again calls on the Haitian National Police to restore calm."

The Communication Unit of the Ministry of Defense confirmed 2 victims in the rank of soldiers 1 died from gunshot wounds and another injured in stable condition.

The provisional balance reports 3 dead (1 soldier, police and a 17-year-old boy) and more than a dozen wounded (1 soldier, at least 4 police officers and several civilians).
