GLOBAL SITUATION :
On Tuesday 17th 2020, the number of people infected with Covid-19 worldwide since the start of the epidemic amounted to 183.198 (laboratory confirmed cases, official source), up 13.813 cases (+ 8.15%) compared to on the eve, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30282-haiti-covid-19-daily-bulletin-march-16-2020.html (only 33 more cases in China whose national cure rate is currently 84.8% or 68,777 people healed out of 81,053 cases).

Since the start of the epidemic, 79,726 people have been cured of Covid-19 worldwide (+ 3.2%), or 2,469 more than yesterday.

The number of infected people in the world receiving care (active cases) is currently 96,314 (+ 12.49% compared to the previous day).

7,158 people have died from Covid-19 worldwide (+ 11.66% compared to yesterday) since the start of the epidemic, 645 more than the previous day (6,513).

Since the start of the epidemic 102,140 (+ 15.59%) confirmed cases have been reported to date outside of China ,in a total of 155 countries. Note that the 10 most affected countries (Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Germany, France, USA, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Netherlands) represent 83.6% of all cases.

3,935 deaths have been reported outside of China since the start of the epidemic and the 10 countries mentioned above account for 96.1% of all deaths. The number of deaths outside China is higher than that in China (3,230)

France : 6,655 active cases (+ 22.4%) or 1,218 more cases and 148 deaths (+ 16.5%) or 36 more deaths.

NEWS - INFORMATION

HAITI :

FLASH 19 Haitians in quarantine :
Marie Greta Roy Clément, Minister of Public Health announced that as part of the containment measures, 19 Haitian travelers who returned Sunday from Europe were placed in quarantine specifying "They were placed in an appropriate space. Materials including a thermometer to find out their temperature were distributed to them. We are closely monitoring their health assessment," adding that these people have been subjected to preliminary medical tests and are currently under observation.

Denial from the Spanish Embassy :

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC :

FLASH first death :
Monday barely 16 days after the announcement of the first imported case in the Dominican Republic, the Minister of Public Health, Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas accompanied by the local representative of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Alma Morales, announced the first death on Dominican territory. She is a 47 year old Dominican who returned from Spain and who had comorbidities because she had tuberculosis and was HIV positive. She died early Sunday morning when she was rushed to the Cruz Jiminián clinic. The Minister clarified that this is a local case, not a community transmission.

20 confirmed imported cases :
In addition, he confirmed on Dominican territory 20 positive cases all isolated and under hospital surveillance and 25 other suspect cases awaiting laboratory results and several people under home surveillance but who are not confirmed cases. Specifying that the 20 confirmed cases are ALL imported cases. These are Dominicans and foreigners with a history of travel from infected countries.

Puerto Plata, an American under surveillance:
An American citizen James Walter Duncan is under observation for a possible case of Covid-19 at the Ricardo Limardo hospital. This patient had left the hospital center without authorization on Sunday morning but was quickly located by members of CESTUR, who took him to the Covid-19 suspected cases unit.

Santiago :
Dr. Reginald Carrenard, Head of Migrant Services at the Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago (Rep.Dom.) Met with the Regional Director of Public Health of Cibao, Dr. Fausto Batista Cabral, as part of the measures adopted for the prevention of Covid-19.

FRANCE :

The French population confined to Italian...:
From this Tuesday, March 17 at noon, it will no longer be possible to leave your home except to take care of yourself, do your shopping or go to work for those who cannot telecommute. This confinement is planned for a period of 15 days and could be extended if the situation so requires.

UNITED STATES:

Donald Trump volte face :
Monday, President Donald Trump, contrary to what he assured the day before, admitted on Monday March 16 that the Covid-19 epidemic was not "under control" on American territory while explaining a series of measures aimed at reducing drastically the contacts between people, even if they remain recommendations for the moment, especially for bars and restaurants. These measures are limited to a period of fifteen days which may be extended depending on the development of the situation.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has admitted that the United States may not be able to escape a recession as Wall Street plunged Monday, March 16, at the opening of nearly 13% (a record since 1987).

Tips :
Basic advice protect yourself and avoid the spread of Covid-19 as much as possible, in case of introduction in Haiti :

  • Always cough or sneeze into your sleeves or elbow, never on the other person's face or in your hands;
  • Use tissues to wipe your hands or face and then throw them in the trash and then wash your hands;
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap or alcoholic water. You can also use a "sanitizer";
  • Avoid close contact with someone with flu-like illness and invite them to seek treatment;
  • Avoid contact with vulnerable people if you are sick;
  • Avoid greetings like handshakes and kisses;
