Haiti - Security : The PNH celebrates its 25 years of existence in pain

This Friday, June 12, 2020 the National Police of Haiti (PNH) celebrates its 25 years in pain. Indeed, on the eve of this anniversary, the lifeless body of police officer Larousse Joseph kidnapped and held captive on the sidelines of Wednesday clashes between armed groups from the popular neighborhoods of "Shada" and "Nan Bannan'n", was found early on the road leading to the Airport of the city of Cap-Haitien. He was part of the 27th promotion and was assigned to the Departmental Police Maintenance Unit (UDMO).

Hugues Pierre Brun Press and Public Relations Coordination (PRP) recalls that "No less than 34 police officers, not counting the wounded, were killed during the year 2019, which was a particularly difficult period for the PNH. So it was a tragedy ! A tragedy that still continues to mourn our police force which deplores already in 2020, more than a dozen dead [..] The assassination of a police officer should in no case be treated as a simple news item on the social networks, but it should rather challenge society in relation to this culture of violence that is developing in our society. A barbaric violence which must lead us to reflect on the future of the mental state of the Haitian citizen who increasingly trivializes the murder. Society has a moral responsibility to express its rejection of this disintegration threatening the social cohesion, mutual aid and solidarity."

"[...] Today, the National Police of Haiti celebrates its 25 years in pain and turmoil but it does not intend to let go in the accomplishment of its heavy task which is to Protect and Serve the population.

To all members of the institution, I wish courage. Good luck and happy 25th anniversary."
